NYAOT Advocacy Secures Additional $100 Million in Unrestricted Aid for Towns

NYAOT is pleased to inform our members that our sustained advocacy efforts have helped secure an additional $100 million in unrestricted state aid for towns through the Temporary Municipal Assistance Program (TMA), as proposed by Governor Kathy Hochul in her 30 Day Amendments.

Christopher A. Koetzle, Executive Director of NYAOT, issued the following statement:
“Towns across New York thank Governor Hochul and commend her proposal to provide an additional $100 million in unrestricted state aid through the Temporary Municipal Assistance program. This funding delivers critical fiscal flexibility, enabling towns to sustain essential public services and ease pressure on local property taxpayers. At NYAOT’s conference on Tuesday, the Governor reaffirmed that, as a former town official, she has not forgotten her local government roots. This proposal demonstrates a clear and meaningful commitment to supporting municipalities with direct assistance.”

NYAOT will continue advocating to ensure this funding is fully enacted in the final budget and that towns receive the support they need to serve their residents effectively.
